Bukezia-Insurgency

Insurgency

Over the years Bukezia has been plagued with civil war and an insurgency, that all stem from an ongoing faction that has changed its face during its evolution.

Red Union

Active: Feb 1992-Oct 1993
When the Soviet Union collapsed and Bukezia became independent there were some who did not want to leave Russian rule. Originally they were a political faction but one of its members was more militant in his ideas.
Iosif Globa seized power of the group, and led an army south to seize Govengrad and the government. They were being secretly backed by Russia which is why they were able to mobilise quickly.

Their advance was going well until the counter-attack by the Peoples Republic where they were pushed back into the north and eventually surrendered after the siege of Stolozikiy.

Iosif Globa was never captured, he managed to vanish with a number of Red Union members.

Red Revolution

Active: Feb 1994-2005
The Red Revolution was the reform of the Red Union, Iosif Globa knew he no longer had the manpower to conduct open warfare so they had to change tactics.
Globa still had his contacts in Russia and was able to secure equipment still, but he gathered new followers and planned to conduct an insurgency.

Their first operation was the assassination of Prime Minister Mironov, but the Red Revolution sniper missed!
They conducted small scale assaults, raids and ambushes, while they built up their strength in the north.

The Bukezian army puts its newly trained spec ops into play and the Red Revolution is quickly put on the defensive.
January 1996, the Red Revolution is active only in the north and the Government declare war with them, a new battlefront opens and for months neither side makes any gains.

In May, 1996 the Red Revolution strikes, over the past year it had massing every armoured vehicle it could repair and buy off the black market.
The armoured strike drove 23 miles south until it was finally stopped by air strikes and dug-in armour.

Iosif Globa's body was found in this battle, and since his death and with the Bukezian Government identifying and cutting off their supply lines the Revolution started to die.

Resurgent Red

Active: 2006-2008
With Globa dead, what was left of the insurgency had a power struggle for who was going to now lead them.
And Makar Vlidik came out top. Vlidik was one of Globa's main lieutenants and was both an intelligent and a skilled soldier.

Their first operation is the assassination of prime minister Baikov, and they succeed! Over the following months they conduct aggressive operations which puts pressure on the Army to combat them but take heavy casualties.

Vlidik realised that his troops needed better training, so managed to acquire the services of Chechen Mercenaries and Al- Quaeda to help his troops fight in the field and to train them.

But the Bukezian army in 2008 deploys drones, they are able to find their camps easily which are quickly destroyed, Vlidik gathered all the forces he had left for a big offensive towards Govengrad.

Although this Blitzkreig caused a huge amount of damage it was stopped and destroyed by the Army quite quickly.
The survivors surrendered but Vlidik was not found.

What few engineers they had were put to work restoring the MIG-25's, the Government felt that its priority was to protect its airspace but when in September 1992 civil war broke out they swapped their priority to getting the SU-25's airborne to provide CAS.

During the civil war with the Red Union, they realised how disorganised they were, as the Army suffered defeat after defeat and although they had plenty of weapons, they lacked in body armour, medical supplies, communications, rations, etc.
When the "Non-lethal support act" was signed with the US in October of 1992 they started to receive the equipment they were lacking, but the war did not go any better for them.

Republican Army

January 1994, the military gets reorganised, the Peoples Republic Army had been established with help from US advisors and the CIA. With the merging of forces to establish the Republican Army they organised to western doctrine.

Training camps/bases sprung up everywhere, soldiers were given more comprehensive training.
Joining the army was a good choice at this point as the country's economy was just beginning to settle but unemployment was still high.
The Army had no end of willing recruits

They also completely reformed the Brigades,
-Infantry Brigades
This also includes Motorised Infantry.
-Armoured Brigades
This also includes Mechanised Infantry
-Airbourne Brigades
This covers Airassult and Paratroopers
-Specialised Brigades
Such as Engineers, medical, logistics, etc

In August 1994 the Spetznaz get an overhaul as US Spec ops and CIA advisors train them to more modern standards.

In 1995 during the rebuild program the military has a huge budget cut, recruitment was stopped and expenditure of fuel and munitions was tightly regulated.
Recruitment picked up again in 1996 when war was declared against the Red Revolution.

In 1997 the Alliance with Poland is formed and the army receives a few upgrades, the BRDM-2's are upgraded to the Polish Variant and the shilkas are refitted to the 'Biala' version.

In 1999 US Green Berets and Rangers work alongside the Bukezian army to put down the latest insurgency, the Bukezian troops learn some tactics and drills that have now been put into the basic training program for recruits.

In 2003 the 3 day border war with Russia erupts, the National army are given glowing reviews on international news as they conduct the conflict with discipline and professionalism.

2005 Bukezia is the location for the regional wargames, this exercise gives the army new ideas on how to improve the recruits training. They also realised their T-72s were out of date hardware.

The first platoon of T-72 tanks were replaced with Leopard 2A4 tanks in 2006, even though the Leopard performed better it was still vulnerable to insurgent ambush.
So the Leopards were upgraded to what is now known as the Leopard 2A4BKZ, which was fitted with extra armour and a RWS so crewmen did not need to expose themselves.

The armies Electronic and Surveillance capabilities are addressed in 2008 when the first Drones are deployed. With the constant insurgency issues in country and their close ties with the USA they ordered a large number of Maxxpro MRAP vehicles, the first ones arrived in 2009.
